Meet the Director
Born in 2005 at Huntington Hospital, Oliver Woodward Nelson grew up in South Pasadena. He attended Arroyo Vista Elementary, South Pasadena Middle School, South Pasadena High School and is an incoming student for UC Irvine. At a young age, Oliver developed a passion for Star Wars and Lego. Those two relative joys decidedly met. He started making Lego stop-motion films when he was 8 years old. He enjoyed the creation of narratives, telling stories in fun and unique mediums, and developed a strong drive and determination. Oliver took broadcasting and journalism in 7th and 8th grade, and drama from freshman to senior year in high school. He created several school news programs and learned the inner workings of film and media. However, it was not until 10th grade, with his friends, that he created his first several low-budget short films. But these creative plots and ideas sparked an overall passion for filmmaking. In August of 2022, Oliver attended a wilderness program where he faced several difficult challenges to stay alive and make it back home to his family. Struggling with longterm anxiety and depression, Oliver was able to overcome his fears and returned home in late October. Shortly after his wilderness experience, he came up with a story that would be the baseline for his short film, SOLO. He dedicated his senior year of high school to finishing the project and was backed by Roundabout Entertainment as well as several other cast and crew members. Oliver graduated from South Pasadena High School in June 2023 and continued to work on SOLO until its completion in April 2024, where it was screened at Roundabout Entertainment. He is now enrolled at UC Irvine, majoring in Film and Media Studies, and is on course to graduate in 2028.
